Athena's Heavy Duty Tile Cleaner

Athena is formulated for deep cleaning of cement tile, stone, and other delicate surfaces, indoors and outdoors. Because it is alkaline rather than acidic, it is safe on materials that would be damaged by aggressive acidic cleaners.

Athena is a deep-cleaning cleaner designed to remove stubborn dirt, grime, built-up residue, grout haze, and wax or sealer treatments. It also performs well on post-installation residue when used at the recommended dilution.

Athena is a concentrate and the dilution depends on the job. For heavy-duty cleaning of tough stains, use Athena undiluted or diluted 1:1 to 1:4. For grout residue removal on acid-sensitive materials after installation, dilute 1:1 to 1:3. For wax or sealer stripping treatments, dilute 1:1. For regular maintenance and routine cleaning, dilute up to 1:9.

Remove loose dust and debris with a broom or vacuum, then wet the surface with water to prepare it. Protect any surfaces not intended for treatment, and ensure grout and adhesive on new installations are fully cured. Apply the diluted solution evenly with a mop, sponge, spray bottle, or single-disc machine. Scrub with a non-abrasive white sponge, let the solution sit for 15-20 minutes (scrub occasionally and keep the surface wet by adding more solution or water as needed). After dwell, add clean water and scrub with a melamine sponge. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and use a wet vacuum to remove excess water. Allow the surface to dry fully and inspect; repeat if necessary.

Yes. Athena is a deep cleaner, and the cleaning process can affect or remove existing sealer, so the surface should be resealed after use. For cement tile, follow Athena with Zeus' Tile Sealer to restore the protective barrier. If the tile has never been primed before — for example, on a new installation or a stripped, untreated surface — apply Poseidon's Tile Primer first, then Zeus. If the tile was previously primed and is just being resealed, you can go straight to Zeus.

Athena is supplied in a 32 fl oz (950 mL) bottle. Because Athena is a concentrate, the area you can cover depends heavily on dilution: at 1:9 (routine maintenance) it goes much further than at 1:1 (stripping) or undiluted (heavy stains). A commercial-size jug is also available for larger jobs.

Yes. Athena is effective on grout when diluted 1:1 to 1:3 for grout residue removal on acid-sensitive materials. Use a non-abrasive scrub pad or our Melamine Sponge to agitate the solution along grout lines.

Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, ideally with local aspiration. Wear protective gloves, eye protection, and face protection; use a respirator if ventilation is limited. Avoid breathing fumes, mist, or spray. Wash hands and face thoroughly after handling. Always review the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use.

No. Athena is designed for deep cleaning and residue removal, not long-term protection. For ongoing maintenance after a deep clean, use Aphrodite's Daily Cleaner, and reseal porous tile to restore the protective barrier.

Clean all tools with water immediately after use. Store Athena in its original sealed container in a cool, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight, heat sources, open flames, sparks, and other ignition points.
