Expert advice

Man wearing beige overalls and a white cap, holding a tool on a white background

"I install tile in Southern California, where terracotta is very popular, but what most people don’t realize is how absorbent it really is. If you apply sealer directly to untreated terracotta, the tile can absorb it unevenly and that’s when you start seeing blotchy finishes or areas that darken more than others.

Priming the surface first helps regulate how the tile absorbs liquids so the sealer can bond evenly. It makes a big difference in how consistent the finish looks and how well the tile holds up over time."

FAQs

What is Apollo's Oil Stain Remover designed for?

Apollo is a powerful, solvent-based stain remover engineered to tackle stubborn oil stains. It penetrates deeply to lift and dissolve grease, oil, and similar tough stains without damaging the underlying material.

What surfaces is Apollo effective on?

Apollo is effective on concrete, stone, and other hard surfaces. As with any tile product, conduct a preliminary test on a small, inconspicuous area first to confirm compatibility with your surface.

How does Apollo work?

Apollo works as a poultice. When applied over an oil stain in a thick, even layer, it absorbs and lifts the oil out of the surface as it dries — pulling the stain up rather than just cleaning the top of the tile.

How do I apply Apollo's Oil Stain Remover?

Sweep or vacuum the surface to remove dust, dirt, and debris, and make sure it is dry. Test in a small, hidden area first. For newly installed surfaces, wait until grout and adhesive are fully dried. Avoid applying on overly heated surfaces — apply during the cooler parts of the day. If the surface has existing wax or protective treatments, remove them so the stain remover can penetrate. Shake Apollo thoroughly, then cover the stain completely with a thick, even layer.
Allow it to dry fully until it turns to a powder. Once dry, remove the powder residue: for porous materials, use a soft-bristled broom or clean brush; for non-absorbent materials, use absorbent paper, a towel, or a cloth. Finish by cleaning the surface with a slightly damp cloth or mop, then allow it to dry fully before assessing the results. Repeat the application if needed.

How long does Apollo take to work?

Apollo needs to dry fully and turn to a powder before it can be removed. The exact time depends on temperature, humidity, and how thickly the product was applied. For stubborn or older stains, you may need to repeat the application process to fully draw out the stain.

What is the container size?

Apollo is supplied in a 16.9 fl oz (500 mL) bottle. The amount needed per stain depends on the size and depth of the stain — apply a thick, even layer that fully covers the stain plus a small border.

Does Apollo provide long-term stain protection?

No. Apollo is designed to lift existing oil stains, not to prevent future stains. For ongoing protection, follow up with Poseidon's Tile Primer and Zeus' Tile Sealer (or another appropriate sealer) for porous surfaces, and clean spills promptly.

What safety precautions should I take when using Apollo?

Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, ideally with local aspiration. Wear protective gloves, eye protection, and face protection; use a respirator if ventilation is limited. Keep Apollo away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames, and other ignition sources, and use non-sparking tools. Wash hands and face thoroughly after handling, and always review the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use.

Can I use Apollo outdoors and on hot surfaces?

Apollo is suitable for outdoor use, but avoid applying on overly heated surfaces — apply during the cooler parts of the day so the product dries and lifts the stain properly rather than evaporating too quickly.

How do I clean my tools and store leftover product?

Clean all application tools with water immediately after use. Store Apollo in its original sealed container in a cool, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight, heat sources, open flames, sparks, and other ignition points.
