  1. Surface Cleaning and Preparation: Ensure the tile surface is clean, dry, and free of any dust, dirt, or debris. For best results, clean the tiles with Athena’s Heavy Duty Tile Cleaner to remove any existing dirt or stains, allowing the sealer to penetrate more effectively.
  2. Dilution Instructions: For low-absorbent materials such as hard-burned clays, dilute 1 part Demeter’s Terracotta Primer with 3 parts water. For highly absorbent materials like handmade clays, dilute 1 part primer with 1 part water. This allows for optimal penetration and protection.
  3. Product Application Before Tile Installation: Before installation, immerse each tile in the diluted primer for 15-20 seconds to ensure complete coverage. This pre-treatment protects tiles from moisture during and after installation.
  4. Product Application After Tile Installation: After installation, apply Demeter’s Terracotta Primer evenly to clean, dry surfaces using a brush, roller, or low-pressure sprayer. Allow the primer to penetrate for 15-20 minutes. For highly absorbent surfaces, reapply as needed. Wipe away any excess sealer to prevent residue.
  5. Post-Application: Ensure that Demeter’s Terracotta Primer is applied before grouting to protect the tiles from moisture absorption during the grouting process. The surface will be ready for light traffic in 2-3 hours. Full protection is achieved within 24 hours. Avoid water exposure for at least 24 hours after application. Wait at least 24 hours before tile installation or grout application.
